Overview

I had the pleasure of designing some signage for the wedding of some close friends of mine. This was one of my first freelance / personal projects. It was fun to sit down with them and get a feel for what they were looking for in the aesthetic of their celebration. They supplied some great mood board pieces which helped to inspire the designs I created.

Process

Since I know the couple very well it was a more casual back and forth while I created the different pieces of signage. I would print off pieces and show them the designs as I went along and changed little things here and there based on their vision. For the most part they were happy with the direction I took things, and appreciated my experience with thoughtful typographical and layout elements. I kept a keen eye on their mood board to ensure that I was matching the style they were looking for. Having that resource was a great guidepost to creating something that felt just right for them.

Insights

It was really fun to do this small project for my friends. It gave me the opportunity to dip my feet into some freelance work, and some work outside of what I was creating for school. It gave me an insight into what it could be like to work with clients who want to have a more casual interaction and relationship with their designer. I had the opportunity to practice creating the structure and process on my end to show the client what they can expect throughout the design experience, as well as create my own schedule for deliverables so they would know when to expect first, second, and final drafts of work.
