Overview
This branding package was created for a Adobe InDesign course, and was created for a fictional client who runs a training business that caters to rock climbing. I created a letterhead with envelope, a business card, a trifold brochure, and a notepad complete with a framework for logging progress while training. I chose to create a fictional client over rebranding a business that already exists, because I wanted to experiment with creating the logo and assets for the business without any previous work to build upon or draw from. I was inspired to use this idea for a fictional business from my own experience as a rock climber, knowing that there are many real companies that exist to create training plans for rock climbers specifically.
Process
From the outset I knew I wanted to create a branding package for a fictional business. I wanted to create a fictional business that drew from some of my personal experiences. I considered education, and science related businesses. I ultimately decided on a training company for rock climbers, as I have experience creating my own training plans for climbing. I researched some of the current training companies that cater to rock climbing, as well as created mood boards inspired by the bright colors of the holds at a climbing gym. Once I knew the direction I wanted to go with the assets I would be creating I started on outlines and sketches of climbing holds and layouts for the different deliverables. I refined those sketches to take into Illustrator, and built out the layouts in InDesign. I then finalized everything with some compelling content in a branding proposal, and the deliverable items.
Insights
I really enjoyed being at the ground level creating for a company that didn't have any assets to work from. I find that having inspiration to work from that already exists can bring it's own direction and excitement to build on. For this particular project I'm glad I gave myself the creative challenge of working from a blank slate. This gave me the insight that drawing inspiration from that which already exists, and creating from your own research and imagination can be valuable to any creative process as you work with a client to make their vision a reality.
