Overview
During the final semester of my certification I had the opportunity to take a digital photography course. Much like illustrating, I have always enjoyed photography. And much like illustrating I find it helpful to be able to capture my own imagery for my design work when it makes sense to. I wanted the images that I took to be of high quality. I enrolled in this course to better understand what it takes to capture professional photos.
Process
Through this course I learned how to frame a scene, based in the elements of art and principles of design, to capture imagery that is intriguing and pleasing to the viewer. I also learned the different aspects of a digital camera that can be altered to create a variety of visuals based on how those aspects have been set.
Insights
Taking photos as assignments, rather than purely for enjoyment, allowed me to see the potential of everyday items, spaces, and scenes. Interesting imagery can be captured just about anywhere, and the variety of ways that you can frame and alter your settings allows for a lot of differentiation in the photos that are captured all of the same space or item. After this course I have come to appreciate finding the beauty in whatever space or place you are in. It's fun to hunt for the perfect shot, but some of the best photos happened more randomly and naturally.
